The Kuranda Scenic Railway: A Journey Through Living History
Step aboard one of Australia’s most iconic rail journeys. The Kuranda Scenic Railway travels 37 kilometres through the stunning Barron Gorge National Park, winding past waterfalls, hand-built tunnels and historic bridges. With onboard commentary, you’ll hear the stories behind the landscape and the railway’s construction. Operating continuously for 134 years, it’s not only Queensland Rail’s longest-running service but also a remarkable piece of living history.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is a 7.5-kilometre scenic tourist cableway running above the Barron Gorge National Park in the Wet Tropics of Queensland’s World Heritage Area in Australia. It operates from the Smithfield terminal in Cairns to the Kuranda terminal or vice versa from Kuranda. Duration is approx 1.5 hours with 2 stops to visit along the way, Barron Gorge and Red Peak Station where you can join a 20 minute complimentary rainforest tour.
Skyrail does not operate on the following dates due to maintenance

Upgrade Project 2026 -2027 - Will commence in July 2026 and will take place in 3 stages, staged to minimise disruption and to allow Skyrail to continue to operate in an adapted capacity throughout most of the project.
